Double-row planting of corn was assessed and compared with other row distances of planting corn. They found that double-row planting gave the highest yield and income. Double row planting (20 x 30 x 80 cm) gave the highest yield among treatments of 9.41 t/ha during first cropping and 7.16 t/ha during the second cropping. Single row planting (20 x 75 cm) gave only 6.45 t/ha and 5.98 t/ha during the first and second croppings, respectively. Double-row planting provided the highest gross income of P75,000 and net income of P35,357.20. Return of investments (ROI) for double-row planting was 89%. Single-row planting provided P51,600 gross income; P19,314 net income; and ROI of 60%. Agronomic performance in terms of number of days to tasseling, number of days to silking, number of days to maturity, plant height, ear height, diameter of ears, length of ears, weight of corn ears, and weight of corn crops were not affected. This means that only the plant density of double-row planting increased the yield, there was no change in organic matter content. Only available P increased due to the different balanced fertilization strategies. None among the treatments was able to maintain soil pH and amount of soil exchangeable bases. Both pH and CEC [cation exchange capacity] declined after three years
