Response of wheat varieties to different sowing methods
1999
Sarki, S.A.
An experiment on response of wheat varieties to different sowing methods was carried out at Latif Farm, Sindh Agriculture University, Tandojam during 1998-99. The trial was laid out in complete randomized block design having three replications of three wheat varieties viz; V1 (7004), V2 (T.J-83) and V3 (T.D-1) with drilling and broadcasting sowing methods. The number of tillers, spike length, number of spikelets/spik, and number of grains/spike was recorded. It was noted that variety T.D-1 produced bolder grain with a seed index of (1000 grain weight) 44.3g followed by variety 7004 as 43.0 g. Maximum grain yield was obtained from T.J-83 as 3024 kg/ha which was followed by 2953 kg/ha obtained from variety 7004. The lowest grain yield 2881 kg/ha was recorded from variety T.D-1. However results show that all the three varieties are suitable for cultivation under Tandojam conditions. Non significant difference at 5% level of probability indicates that sowing by broadcasting or drilling had no vital impact on the production of bolder grains i.e., 1000 grain weight which remains unchanged.
