Fractionation of alkaline H2O2-treated wheat bran

Hard red spring (HRS) wheat bran was delignified by treating with alkaline-H2O2 (AHP). Following AHP treatment of bran, about 39 % of the bran was recovered as insoluble bran. The bran solubles were fractionated, using three procedures. Depending upon the fractionation procedure, 27 % and 23 % of the bran solubles were recovered as fractions of the procedure II and III, respectively. Alkaline-H2O2 treatment increased the total non-starch polysaccharides (NSP) and decreased starch, protein, and ash contents of insoluble bran. Analysis of different bran-soluble fractions showed that the total NSP content was highest in fraction C of procedure III (75.2 %), followed by fraction C of procedure II (41.6 %) and fraction C of procedure I (17.9 %). The starch content was highest (74.5%) in fraction A of procedure III. Highest protein content (33.5 %) was found in fraction C of procedure I. The ash content of fraction B of procedure II was highest (51.7 %).
