The aim of the investigations was to determine the influence of compost produced from municipal solid wastes in various stages of its maturity on growth and development of plants in pot experiment. The object of the investigations was composted municipal wastes from Katowice (Poland) agglomeration. Using unmatured composts as potting media, especially in high doses (400 t/ha) was the reason of cumulation by plants some heavy metals (Z, Pb, Cr, Ni). Content of heavy metals in the tested plants growing on the control media and with addition of composts after 9 months of the composting process did not significantly differ so it is possible to conclude that matured composts can be utilized as components of media in horticulture
