Effects of nitrogen and potassium fertilization on yield and quality of Italian ryegrass grown on arable land. Pt. 2. Contents of total protein, water soluble sugars, crude protein and digestibility

A two-year field study on the very good rye complex soil was carried out. The contents of the total protein mainly depended on the level of nitrogen fertilization and the harvest time. Higher nitrogen doses resulted in a decrease of water soluble sugars, thus lowering the sugar-protein ratio. It was observed that an increase of the nitrogen fertilization levels resulted in the increase of crude protein and the decrease of organic matter digestibility. Potassium fertilization did not cause significant changes in final fodder quality
