Evaluation of agronomic performance of some plantain (Musa AAB cv. Agbagba) landraces and cooking banana (Musa ABB cultivars in Nigeria dry forest
2001

It is clear from the study that Fougamou and Bluggoe did resist the black sigatoka disease, and also had a high productivity and relatively stable yield. They were less susceptible to wind damage (having pseudostem with deep-seating corm). Though Fougamou may not be an acceptable alternative to plantain growers because of its inferior finger length and possession of seeds, Bluggoe may enjoy better acceptability. The latter has a better potential for commercial production because of its fruit size that compares well to that of plantains. Notwith- standing, Fougamou may be considered for other uses like ethanol production
