Over the last years there was observed diminishing number of dairy cows and reduction in milk production in Poland. At the same time, the number of producers supplying dairy purchases with milk decreased while sizes of milk deliveries increased. Additional, there was noticed the large progress in the concentration of dairy farms and in improvement of milk quality. The farm income obtained by dairy farms is significantly correlated with the size of cow stock in the holding. Those of farms surveyed in Podlasie Region, that held over 40 cows, generated net farm income which was 6.6 times higher than received in the farms kept up to 20 cows. In the European Union, the highest net farm income is generated by dairy farms in Italy, Belgium, the Great Britain and Denmark
