Chemistry of river Rurzyca was studied in 1996-98. Wide spatial and temporal variations were revealed in the variables studied (water temperature, dissolved oxygen content, organic matter load and mineralization, and nutrients), a situation typical of small rivers. The variability was a result of changing hydrobiology of the Rurzyca, particularly its flow rate. Effects of pollution were important as well and were particularly pronounced at sampling stations located in towns lacking sewage treatment facilities
