Resistance of a greater number of barley varieties to pre-harvest sprouting (PHS) was estimated. Also, PHS testing methods were examined. Sixty varieties and lines of two-rowed winter barley originating from Yugoslavia, Germany, Holland, the Czech Republic, France and other countries were tested in a trial. Ears for testing were taken seven days before harvest (Ti), during harvest (T2) and seven days after harvest (T3). Tests were carried out in humid chambers and in humid sand. Significant differences in PHS resistance have been determined with respect to varieties and sampling periods. Varieties KG 15-4, Sonate, Marylin, Oregon anf Walfair showed a significant level of PHS resistance. PHS resistance stands in negative correlation with duration of grain watering and in positive correlation with yield per ear and grain size.
