Investigating the work in agrochemistry of Mita Petrovic (1848-1891), meritorious Serbian Teachers' School professor, member of Serbian Royal Academy of Sciences, an outstanding pedagogue and scientist, it can be concluded that his scientific work in elaboration and analytical method of calcium determination and exact chemical analysis of Backa soils are of such importance that he can be considered as an eminent chemist and a pioneer of agrochemistry of that time. We appreciate that Mita Petrovic insisted in investigations of scientific approach and that he opened the door to the European science and achievements in Sombor, at the doorstep of his motherland.
