The influence of planting date on quality and yield of brussels sprouts (Brassica oleracea var. gemmifera)
2003
Mirecki, N.
The possibility of Brussels sprouts cultivation on open field and influence of planting date and variety on growth, yield and quality under agroecologic conditions of Zeta's plain (Montenegro, Serbia&Montenegro) were investigated. The experiment was organized during 1999, 2000 and 2001. During experiment four planting date: April 10, May 10, June 10 and July 10; and two varieties: Diablo F1 and Harley F1 (Bejo-zaden) were used. It was established that plant height depends on planting data and it is higher as planting is earlier. Weight and height of stem is decreasing if planting is later. The second planting date has the biggest number of buds per plant, and the number significantly decrease by later planting. It was established that most of the buds in the first planting date has diameter under the 2 cm. The yield of Brussels sprouts during experiment was 12.60 - 20.90 t/ha, and the best yield was obtained in the first planting data. Later planting date caused decrease of the yield. Three years of investigations confirmed that it is possible to cultivate Brussels sprouts under the agroecological conditions of Zeta's plain (Montenegro, Serbia&Montenegro). The yield and quality of Brussels sprouts planted during April and May are better then Brussels sprouts planted during June and July. The results indicate that we should give advantage to variety Diablo in regard to variety Harley.
