Effects of some factors on the transport phenomena in the grain set

The work deals with transport phenomena in the grain set. Transport phenomena in the biological materials are described by transport equations. The knowledge of the transport properties (the thermal conductivity, the diffusion coefficient etc.) is the essential condition for the description of heat and mass (moisture) transport. The paper concentrates on the measurement of the thermal conductivity of corn grains. The thermal conductivity is estimated as a function of the moisture content, the temperature and the bulk density. The probe modification of the standard hot wire method is utilised as the measuring technique. Measurements are performed on the air under atmospheric pressure at the room temperature, or at the temperature range from room temperature up to 100 deg C. It is shown that the temperature, the moisture content, the binding of the water and the structure of the material are some of essential factors that influence the at once thermal conductivity and the transport phenomena in the grain set.
