We have studied the effect of a number of Bacillus megatherium var. phosphaticus strains, applied individually or in association with Azotobacter chroococcum strains, on two corn hybrids, Stania and Sava. The investigation has shown that the phospho-mineralizing bacteria, applied alone or in assotiation with nitrogen-fixing bacteria, caused increases in the length, mass and nitrogen content of young corn plants. Microbial activity and nitrogen content in the soil were increased while phosphorus content was reduced.
