Eight cultivars of fall bearing raspberries were tested in a field trial at the RAC experimental station of Bruson (1060 m a. s. l.) from 1996 to 1998. The three early ripening cultivars Polana, Autumn Bliss and Ruby had the highest yield and produced fruits of good to medium quality. These three cultivars can be recommended for mountain regions to extend the offer of raspberries after the harvest of the summer bearing raspberries. However, the cultivars Dinkum, Princess, Favorite, Joan Squire and Galante are not adapted for higher regions, because ripening starts to late or fruit quality is not adapted for commercial production. The double-cropping system with a harvest in summer and a second one in autumn produced a higher yield than the traditional system with only one harvest in autumn. However, berry size was considerably lower with this system.
