Composition of plankton and macrozoobenthos as an indicator of water quality of the river Danube (1426-1249 rkm) [Serbia&Montenegro]

In this paper we have presented the results of investigations of phytoplankton, zooplankton and macrozoobenthos obtained in July 2002 in four selected river profiles of the river Danube in Vojvodina (Serbia&Montenegro). The composition of plankton and benthos varied in different localities and has characteristic presence of indicator species of hydrobionts. According to saprobity index given on the basis of plankton and benthos, it may be concluded that the quality of the water of the river Danube belongs to the second class - betamezosaprobic character.
