The quality of beech forests depends on a series of factors, so it has to be the subject of multidisciplinary research. In Serbia beech forests occur on the rocks of different petrochemical characteristics and weathering products in similar climate conditions. In forest regions where chemical measures of soil quality improvement are not implemented, or are rarely implemented, the rocks are also important as sources of a series of chemical elements in plant nutrition. In the assessment of the effect of rocks as a site factor on beech forests, this paper presents the results of the study of Mg, Fe, Mn, Cu, Zn, Pb, Cr, Cd, Co and Ni contents in classic limestones (calcirudites) of Debeli Lug (East Serbia) and in beech foliage developed on them. The study results contribute to the knowledge of chemical composition of calcirudite and beech foliage on these rocks in Serbia, but they can also be a supplement to the study of different profiles in the field of forestry, in solving the issues of beech forests and the site potential assessment, aiming at a higher economic significance of beech forests in future.
