2002
Addis Hailemichael (Ethiopian Agricultural Research Organization, Addis Abeba (Ethiopia))
The study was conducted to test the adventitious root formation and subsequent shoot development in juvenile leafy stem cuttings of Dombeya torrida (sub species torrida-Family stericuliaceae). Including Ethiopia, the species is found in 11 African countries and is considered to be one of the best nectar producing trees. If has soft, light, strong and easy to saw timber. Dombeya torrida seedlings were raised in a glasshouse and a ten-centimeter leafy stem cutting was taken from each seedlings were raised in a glasshouse and a ten-centimeter leafy stem cutting was taken from each seedling. Basal splitting (basal spilt and non-based split) and auxin (non auxin, Indole-3-Butyric Acis (IBA). Data on rooting percentage, number of roots per cutting, root length per root, percentage of cuttings that developed new shoots, shoot length per shoot, defoliation percentage and average number of new leaves per cutting were collected and analysed to see the performance and level of variations between treatment combinations.
