In order to have a ore profound muscle relaxation and analgesia, without use of a general anaesthesia or sedation, use of subarachnoid anaesthesia appears as a viable option. Cuille and Sandrail demonstrated the method of subarachnoid anaesthesia in horse, ox and dogs. Scarce reports are available on subarachnoid anaesthesia in large animals. Present investigation was therefore done to study the effect of 2% lignocaine hydrochloride by inducing subarachnoid anaesthesia in buffalo calves and was compared with 5% lignocaine hydrochloride and 0.5% bupivacaine hydrochloride.
