Clinical expression of the fin necrosis in artificially grown and natural salmon smolt

Clinical expression of fin necrosis was assessed in pools and keeping tanks of Latvian fish farms rearing smolt and the data were compared with the wild smolt from the river Salaca. There were no fin necrosis foundin the river Salaca and only several cases were observed in pools. However, in the rearing tank dorsal fin necrosis were found in 95% cases, pectoral fin necrosis in 51% cases, ventral fin in 5% cases, anal fin in 6% cases and caudal fin in 14% cases. The linear correlation between index of necrosis of dorsal fin and index of necrosis of others fins was observed. It was no disparity index of fin necrosis between sexes.
