Coal as a fuel in Latvia - current situation and forecast

In the last years coal trade capacity in Latvia slowly but persistently decreases and hereby is decreasing also coal contribution into shared energy balance. It happens notwithstanding the fact that after many years common consumption of energy in the country is increasing (by rising of Gross Domestic Product) because due to development of national economics, increases also energy consumption. In many places where coal was used as a fuel, now there are gas central heating boilers installed. Development of wood industry has also made popular heating with woodchips and pellets and coal thus has been left in the place of a stepchild.
