Six hundred fifty-nine white corn breeding lines were tested against Philippine downy mildew. Out of these 659 entries/lines tested, 61 entries/lines or 9.26% showed some degree of resistance to the infection based on their reaction to the disease. Plants showing moderately resistant, moderately susceptible, and susceptible were also noted in the field. Thirty-five lines or 5.31% showed moderate resistance, 29 lines or 4.40% were moderately susceptible, and 534 lines or 81.03% exhibited susceptible reaction. One thousand one hundred twenty-three entries/lines were screened for resistance to bacterial stalk rot. Out of these, 1,123 entries tested, 107 lines or 9.53% showed resistant reaction to the infection. Three hundred ninety-two or 34.91% were moderately resistant, 222 lines or 19.77% were moderately susceptible, and 402 lines or 35.80% showed susceptible reaction. Nine hundred twenty entries/lines were screened for resistance to ear rot. Out of these entries screened, 104 lines or 11.30% showed degree of resistance to the disease. Plants showing moderately resistant (372 lines or 40.43%), moderately susceptible (250 lines or 27.17%), and susceptible (194 lines or 21.09%) reaction were also noted in the field. A total of 157 germplasm materials were collected from various sources which were used initially as breeding materials. Generation of breeding lines/populations were also done. Most of these materials were seed increased and evaluated for yield. Desirable materials with good yield and resistance were identified, selected and then recombined for composite variety formation which were later random mated in isolation. Diallel crosses were generated for synthetic variety and hybrid formation and these are currently evaluated for combining ability
