Efficacy evaluation of farm inputs on [rice] crop growth and yield

Growth and yield levels from the organic-based system of rice production during the dry season did not differ significantly from those of the chemical-based system. The highest yield was obtained from fields applied with chemical fertilizers and lowest from the control. Yields of EM [effective microorganisms] treatments were 1 to 2 t/ha higher than that of the control. The application of 4.0 t/EM organic yielded about 500 kg/ha lower than the recommended fertilizer rate. During the wet season, yields, filled grains, and 1000-seed weights from the different treatments were comparable with those from commercial fertilizers (CF), which yielded 3.82 t/ha. EMT alone yielded 3.33 t/ha comparable with CF. Adding 90 kg N/ha CF to EMT, the yield was further increased by 9.31% over EMT alone. At vegetative stage, number of tillers did not significantly differ among treatments, although 90-40-60 kg/ha NPK had the highest (473.28 per sq m). Application of EMT, COF, and chicken manure (all LCC [leaf color chart]-based) obtained the highest number of tillers (513.75, 509.50, and 508.00, respectively) at panicle initiation. At maturity stage, number of tillers from COF, EMT, and chicken manure in addition with 90 kg/ha NPK (400.00, 401.56 and 392.19) were comparable with that from CF (434.38). Therefore, application of organic fertilizer alone, specifically EMT, is sufficient for plant growth
