On-farm testing of the NuMaSS [nutrient management support systems]
2004
Anon.
On-farm trials were conducted in five sites after soil samples were taken and analyzed in the laboratory to determine critical parameter such as pH, organic matter, exchangeable bases, aluminum, Meihlich 1 P, and clay percentage. The NuMaSS [nutrient management support systems] recommendation consistently yielded highest in all sites in both crops but did not significantly differ from the RR. The predicted amounts of N and P generated by NuMaSS to obtain a target yield of 2.5 t/ha for rice and 4.0 t/ha in corn was lower than the RR, indicating that to attain these target yields, the higher amounts indicated in the regional recommendation are more than the crops' requirement to attain these yield levels. NuMaSS was able to predict the yields of corn in North Cotabato [Philippines] and of rice and corn in South Cotabato. The grain yield of corn in North Cotabato was comparable among the three treatments. NuMaSS, RR, and NuMaSS-N implying that the absence of N is not a very limiting factor for corn to produce good yields owing to high soil organic carbon. In South Cotabato, very high yields were obtained in all treatments except in the control plot
