Epidemiological study on coccidiosis in commercial broilers and its relationship with other diseases

In this epidemiological study 26.48% of sampled birds and 26.82% of farms were found affected with coccidiosis during June to September. Six species Eimeria acervulina, E. mitis, E. tenella, E. necatrix. E. praecox and E. mivati were identified. Distribution of in August and 9.83% (29/295) in September. Caecum was the most commonly affected part of the gastrointestinal tract. In 65% of cases duodenum, 45% jejunum, 24% ileum and while in 96% cases caecum was affected. Concurrent infections were detected in 80.68% cases which included infectious coryza 21.95%. aflatoxicosis 27.45%, infectious bursal disease 16.94%. chronic respiratory disease 12.54%, Newcastle disease 10.16%, hydropericardium syndrome 9.83%. Escherichia coli 9.15% and Salmonella infections 8.13%. Coccidiosis was most prevalent in birds of 4 to 6 weeks of age while it was not recorded in I and 8 week old birds. Coccidiosis had drastic effects on Newcastle disease antibody titer. None of the farmers vaccinated their flocks against coccidiosis and about 35% used coccidiostats prophylactically.
