The study was designed to analyze and examine the impact of Sarhad Rural Support Programme (SRSP) on gender development in District Abbottabad in the year 2002. For this purpose primary data were collected from ten Women Organizations (WOs) in ten villages from 65 respondents in district Abbottabad. It is obvious from the results that the WOs established by SRSP have been successful in the area. These WOs initiated. development programmes including water supply schemes, health and credit facilities. Training were given in the field of agriculture, carpet making, food technology, flower making, poultry management, record keeping, accounts and leadership skills which enhances the income of rural females. These activities on the part of WOs, enhanced the decision making power of the women. Main, problems in the study area were lack of infrastructure including schools/colleges both for boys and girls, roads, vocational centers, marketing facilities and credit facilities. The study recommends that the rest of the women should be trained. It is important to give representation, opportunities to all members by increasing their education and skill. Community based schools/colleges should be established. Vocational centers should be established in order to increase income of the rural females. Marketing linkages should be further strengthened in order to sell locally made products.
