Clinical efficacy of safoof-e-teen in the management of heartburn during pregnancy

Heartburn is more distressing among various problems associated with pregnancy, affecting invariably day-to-day activities. It is due to reflux esophagitis produced by anatomical and physiological changes occurring in Gastrointestinal Tract (G.I.T.) Safoof-e-Teen possesses demulcent, astringent and anti-inflammatory properties. The present study is an attempt to evaluate the efficacy of the above-mentioned drug clinically in the doses of 6 gm twice a day after meals in the diagnosed cases of heartburn during pregnancy for 60 days. The use of this drug has shown marked improvement in heartburn and other associated symptoms, signs and investigative findings without any adverse affect on mother or new-born.
