Effect of various micro elements (Zn, Cu, Fe, Mn) on the yield and yield components of paddy

Effect of zinc, copper, iron and manganese was studied at ARI, D.I Khan during Kharif 2000 on the yield and yield component, of rice paddy Cv. Gomal- 6. Zinc. Cu. Fe and Mn were applied as 5.0, 5.0, 2.5 and 2.5 kg ha in the form of sulfate each alone as well as in combination with the basal dose of N. P2O5, K2O 150-120-100 Kg ha-1, respectively in the form of urea. SSP and SOP. All the other cultural practices were followed uniformly through out the growing season. A composite soil sample was taken before laying out the experiment and was analyzed for various physico-chemical characteristics. The results revealed that the soil was calcareous, silty clay, deficient in organic matter. N. P and Zn. The K. Cu. Fe. and Mn were marginal to adequate. Data recorded on the yield and yield components showed that the results were significant (P less than 0.05) for dry matter, grain straw yield, number of panicles/m2 and non-significant for 1000 grains weight. The highest significant paddy yield of 6087 kg ha-1 was achieved from Zn + Cu + Fe + Mn compared to the yield of 4703 kg ha-1 from check (NPK). By separating the yield means for individual treatments. Zn. Cu. Fe and Mn gave an increase of 15.7, 14.5, 11.8 and 10.6% over NPK, respectively. The dry matter and straw yields were also significantly affected and produced the highest yield of 14818 and 8732 kg ha- 1. respectively from NPK + Zn + Cu + Fe + Mn. Significantly highest number (500) of Panicles/ m2 was produced by the same treatment. 1000 grain weight was not affected significantly by the application of micro nutrients over check.
