Drying of soymilk in a spouted bed of inert particles

Spouted bed dryer with Teflon particles was used to dry soymilk into a free flowing powder. The soymilk dried using two sizes of drying chambers. Experiments for drying of soymilk were conducted at different airflow rates, inlet air temperatures, feed rates and amount of Teflon pellets. The soymilk powder samples were analyzed for quality parameters of moisture content, whiteness, solubility and particle density. No significant ace was observed in quality of soymilk powder using different drying chambers. The soymilk powder with all good quality is produced at inlet temperature of 100 to 120 degree C, airflow rate of 250 to 350 M3 /h, feed rate of 1.5 kg/h with Teflon pellets of 0.6 to 0.8 kg. The moisture content, solubility index, whiteness and particle density of soymilk powder ranged from 1.91 to 7.02%, 0.736 to 0.979, 69.2 to 77.7 and 1.1 to 1.287 g/ml respectively. The moisture content, solubility index and particle density of soymilk powder decreased with an crease in inlet or outlet air temperature and vice versa. Increase in feed rate also displayed respective increases in moisture content and solubility index. Moreover, the average values of whiteness showed corresponding rise with et or outlet air temperature. The airflow rate and amount of the Teflon pellets apparently had no effect on the A moisture content, solubility index, whiteness and particle density. However, the solubility was proportionately increased with the rise in the temperature of reconstituting water.
