Effect of gamma irradiation on vegetative and floral characteristics of tuberose corms (Polianthes tuberosa L.) vs. Single
2002
Ali, J.
The bulbs were irradiated from Nuclear Institute for Agriculture and Biology (NIAB). Observations were taken on various parameters of growth and floral characteristics, during the course of study. In growth characteristic like sprouting percentage, plant height and number of leaves per plant, the result showed that low intensity of radiation gave better results than high intensity. In case of floral characteristic like number of spike per plant, Days required for 10 % flowering, length of spike, number of floret per spike and intact flower life. It was observed that the low intensity of radiation produced better floral characteristic in all above parameters except quality of flower, which was better in T1 (control). Regarding corms characteristics it was noted that the lower doses of gamma rays produced more and bigger size of corms but higher doses results in the less and smaller sized corms than control.
