Big meat plants under competitive conditions

The object of the studies was to analyse the economic situation of selected meat plants. The research concerned four big companies which were among the bigest in the meat sector in Poland from 1997 to 2000. The companies analysed were actively engaged in exports and in comparison with their smaller competitors on local markets they experienced the effects of disturbances on the eastern market to a higher degree. The year 1999 brought significant deterioration in all economic results. The year 2000 was characterized by an improvement in the economic results also at such loss-making companies like Mazury and Sokolow. Despite many problems, modern companies with highly advanced processes of restructuring and modernization as Farm Food and Morliny managed to keep their position on the market
