The traditional high cattle breeding activity in the mountainous areas of the North of Portugal has created a shrubbly landscape. A methodology to characterize the phytostruturale behaviour of these types of communities, based on the quantification of their resistance and resilience (under the point of view of the ecotonical intra and inter-community dynamic), has been the main objective of the present work. The area of the Natural Park of Alvao (PNA) has been selected according to the geographic situation (in the atlantic/mediterranean iberian climatologic transition) and its intensive cattle breeding activity. An apparent adaptation of the shrubby vegetation to fire and cattle pression is demonstrated
