IPGRI and the African Centre for Technology Studies (ACTS) jointly organized the Roundtable to identify, discuss and promote ways of integrating issues of conservation and sustainable use of plant genetic resosurces, as well as the sharing of benefits arising from their use into the programmes of NEPAD (New Partnership for Africa's Development). The Roundtable discussed strategies of building African countries' capacities for the implementation and ratification of the International Treaty on Plant Genetic Resources for Food and Agriculture. It also identified specific PGR concerns and issues that were included on the agenda of the World Summit on Sustainable Development (WSSD) held in Johannesburg in September 2002.
