The importance of benchmarking in innovation, technological and research processes in the wood industry

The EU assigns the mastering of innovation processes one of the essential roles of economic development - right after information technologies. When Slovenia enters global markets and comes closer to the EU, its comparison to related industrial branches in Europe will become one of the primary indicators of its business processes status. Statistic indicators greatly serve us in this issue. Knowledge of background and statistical data enables meaningful and systematic analyses of status, causes, trends, and their understanding. This contribution will present a benchmarking analysis of the Slovene wood processing industry, especially with regards to innovation and technology processes. We will consider the given status and compare it with the European wood processing industry on the basis of the statistical indicators.
