This work focused on the cytogenetic response of sheep (the frequency of micronuclei in the peripheral lymphocytes) from farms polluted at different levels (ecological farm, conventional farm, farm situated 15 km from a source of industrial pollution). The animals were examined in the spring of 2000. All analyses were carried out within one month. In each animal the frequency of micronuclei was determined per one thousand binuclear cells. The lowest frequency of micronuclei was observed in sheep on the ecological farm (12.295 +/- 4.339 per one thousand binucleated cells) whereas the highest frequency was seen in animals from the farm situated in the industrial zone (25.175 +/- 6.70 per one thousand binucleated cells). The differences between the frequency of micronuclei in sheep from the ecological farm and the remaining two farms were significant (P0.05)
