Overlay analysis of maps that produces homogeneous geocomplexes is a widely used method in landscape ecology. However, this method has often been criticized recently. At present, field investigations are preferred, especially on a large scale, but they cannot be used always (e.g. a lack of time, investigation on a small scale). This paper describes possibilities of utilizing foresty data on potential vegetation and its production in a landscape ecology investigation. Using these forestry data, we verified and completed overlay map analysis within the study area of the Polana Biospere Reserve
