Change in soil temperature under corn cultivation with incorporation of green manure

Sweet corns were grown in 5x6 m plots on Yasothon soil with and without combination of chemical fertilizer (15-15-15) and incorporation of green manure as fresh cowpea. During the growing period of cow pea (until incorporation into soil) and of sweet corn, soil temperation at 1 and 5 inch deep were recorded at 8:30 and 14:00 h as often as possible. Rainfall, air temperature, sunshine duration and radiation records were collected in order to support the explanation of the change in soil temperature. Results of the experiment can be concluded that change in soil temperature at depth of 1 and 5 inch measuring at both 8:30 and 14:00 h is independent upon ferfilizer applicant, incorporation of cowpea, and the conopy of corn plants. Soil temperature measuring at 5 inch deep is 0-6 deg C lower than at 1 inch deep, but measuring at 14:00 h is always higher than at 8:30 h. Change in soil temperature has close relationship with the daily climate such as radiation energy, sunshine duration and rainfall.
