Main objectives of the study are to find the factors affecting a decision making of farmers on rice intensification and to compare the cost and return of rice production in Changwat Nakhon Pathom. A total of 68 farm households were randomly chosen and interviewed. Logit Model and Cobb-Douglas production function were introduced as the major analytical tools for this study. The analytical results from Logit Model indicate that the significant factors affecting a decision making of growing triple rice a year are depended on age of the family head, income of rice, family labor that growing third crop, cultivated area and flooding. These key factors with the acception of the last two factors have positively affected on the decision of triple rice farmers. The cultivated area and flooding are the negative factors affecting the farmers decision. The results obtained from the estimated Cobb-Douglas production function, show that, farm inputs such as the amount of farm cash expenses, human labor and machinary power have significantly affected rice yield. The total sum of production elasticity of significant inputs is 0.6718 indicating that the rice production has occupied a decreasing return to scale. An analysis of cost and return of the second crop and the third crop of rice production indicate that the third crop of rice production has relatively low production cost and return. Even the third crop of rice production generates lower profit than that for the second crop of rice production, the growers of the third crop of rice production still earn profit averaging 387.94 baht per rai from the production.
