[Agroecological assessment of Ukraine's soil]
2002
Shyshchenko, P.H.
Studied are Ukraine's soils as multi-functional systems of the critical ecological significance. They function as an environment for existence, an accumulator and a source of substances and energy for the organisms, a link between biological and geological cycles, a protective barrier and conditions for biosphere as a whole to function normally. Functions of soils make up ecological and agroecological potential thereof. Investigated are ploughing up of soils, unfavourable natural and anthropogenous processes (land slides, erosion, erosive leakage, deflation, karst, mud flows, salinization, underflooding etc). Issues of man-caused soil pollution, in particular with heavy metals, plant protection chemicals, radioactive pollutants are considered. Indices are given, according to which the soil pollution resistance is determined
