This study was carried out in order to determine distributional pattern of underwater illuminance and clarify the proper application of luring light for dynamo fisheries in Pattani fishing ground. The Ogura model was employed based on preliminary information gained from the three size groups of selected boat. It was found that light could penetrate to more than 40 meters depth. Considering the greatest depth of the seabed of fishing ground, twenty five meters depth was used as the reference point. Underwater illuminance from the large, medium and small fishing boats at reference depth were 4.01, 3.94 and 3.53 lux, respectively. Therefore, it can be concluded that the use of luring light by boats operating in Pattani fishing ground is in excess of the optimum level. Efficiency of lamps used and height of light sources installed on the boat should be considered for proper management of this type of fishing gear.
