Pesticide residues in Thai fruit

Survey of pesticide residues in 5 kinds of Thai fruit which are usually consumed unpeeled, was conducted to provide information for solving pesticide residue problems and to ensure safety for consumption since this may lead to a greater risk to consumers' health. A total of 124 samples of grapes, rose apples, guavas jujubes, and sapodillas were analyzed for organochlorine, organophosphate, charbamate and pyrethroid from October 1992 to September 1993. The results showed that pesticide residues were detected in 96.8 percent of samples and were found to exceed the Codex Maximum Residue Limits in 20.2 percent of smples. Twenty six pesticides were detected and the most frequently found were methomyl, cypermethrin, omethoate, methamidophos, methyl parathion, monocrotophos, dicofol, EPN and malathion respectively. Only five pesticides (monocrotophos, cypermethrin, methamidophos, dicrotophos and methyl parathion) were found to exceed the limits.
