Results of selection of double haploid lines of maize derived from anther culture

Anther culture of maize has received much attention in the National Maize Research Institute of Vietnam since 1995, From 1995-2000 various experiments in anther culture of maize were undertaken for 277 hybrids and open pollinated varieties. The results revealed that 27 out of 277 cultivars formed embryo like -structure (ELS) and 8 out of 27 cultivars forming ELS can regenerate plants. Among 8 cultivars which can regenerate plants, 5 of them having the highest regenerating percentage were: C2 x C172, C153 x C172, AC7931 x C172, C164 x C172. The double haploid lines of maize derived from anther culture had medium and late maturity, high uniformity, good resistance to lodging and can be involved in hybrid combination in field condition.
