Effects of weeding, fungicide, lime and fertilizer on yield, yield components and other characters of groundnut

Experiment was designed to evaluate the individual and combined effects of weed control, fungicide, lime and fertilizer application on yield, yield components and other characters of groundnut. A group balanced block and a randomized complete block design with treatments arranged in factorial combinations were used. In the group balanced experiment, the significant response of pod yield was found to be due to application of different levels of weeding and fertilizer application. This response was mainly due to the increase in the number of pods per plant. Fungicide application and liming gave no response on characters of groundnut except leafspot incidence. In the factorial experiment, for pod yield, all the main effects and interactions except lime were significantly different. In comparison between levels of each factor, only weeding gave an obvious increase in pod yield, while other factors resulted in a slight increase of the character. If all combined treatments were considered, it was found that application of all factors without weeding increased yield about 14 to 31 percent. For the same combinations, but when weeding was included, the increase in pod yield was as high as 42 to 134 percent.
