Propagation of red ginger (Alpinia purpurata) through tissue culture was investigated by using apical buds cultured on Murashige and Skoog (MS) (1962) medium supplemented with 6-benzylamino purine (BA) (0, 1, 5, 10 and 15 mg/l) for shoot regeneration and alpha-naphthaleneacetic acid (NAA) (0.5, 1.0 and 1.5 mg/l) for root induction. The results showed that shoot multiplication was obtained on medium with 5 mg/l BA and suitable medium for root formation was MS medium containing 1 mg/l BA and 1.5 mg/l NAA. The effect of medium on ex vitro growth of plantlets was also studied. The maximum of surviving plantlets and number of leaves were achieved from sand and sawdust (1:1) mixture.
