The objectives of the study were to investigate characteristics of socio-economic, communication and technology utilization that affected the differences in cattle raising. Survey research compared 55 successful farmers with 191 unsuccessful farmers sampling from 1,776 totals. Most of the farmers interviewed were male, Muslim with 26-60 years of age. They did not even pass elementary compulsory education and are employed for rubber cropping with income of 2,000-3,000 bahts per month. They have good living standards, agricultural machines and individual facilities. More than half have mass media exposure, urban contact, general people orientation and extension contact. They built cattle housing, tethering rearing, natural pasture with temporary feeding of concentrate. They got routine animal health services but more than half failed to observe estrous behavior of cows. They used artificial insemination services and bull services. Differential characteristics between successful and unsuccessful farmers were types of cattle raising, concentrate feeding and bull services. These implied on the important of technology utilization. Furthermore, improvement of the project should emphasize on efficiency of estrous detection, adequacy of mating management and provide sufficient nutrition in both quality and quantity for cow's requirement.
