Objectives of these studies were to develop appropriate techniques as standard method for studies of blood component and immune function in black tiger shrimp (Penaeus monodon Fabricius). The studies comprise a study on techniques for collection and separation of hemocytes, application of continuous gradient centrifugation techniques for separation of hemocytes, immunological function of hemocytes and serum i.e. phagocytic activity, clearance ability of bacteria, bactericidal and virucidal activity in the serum, prophenoloxidase activating system, superoxide production of hemocytes and copper content in serum. The appilcation of techniques in immunological and blood parameters studies in black tiger shrimp are also discussed.
