Efficacy of a porcine plasma protein derived colostrum supplement on the survival and growth rates of piglets

Five hundred seventy nine piglets from four standard breeder farms in four provinces of Thailand, weighting between below 1.0 kg and between 1.0-1.2 kg, were used in this trial. The animals were divided into two groups. The first group performed as control (n=239). In the second group (n=340), each piglet was given two 5 ml doses of porcine plasma protein derived colostrum supplement at the first and third day of the pig life. The results indicated that the survival and growth rates at 21 days of age in the treated group were significantly improved compared to the control group at a level of 15.3 percent (P0.001) and 5.4 percent (P0.05); respectively.
