Effect of plant density on yield of sweet potato
1992
Sarkar, Asit Kumar (Bangladesh Agricultural Research Inst., Gazipur (Bangladesh). Citrus and Vegetable Seed Research Centre)
Responses of sweet potato cultivar AIS-0122-2 to different plant densities (75*15, 75*30, 75*45 and 75*60 cm) were studied on silt loam soil during the winter seasons of 1984-1985 at TOP/AVRDC field, Kasetsart University, Kamphaeng Saen Campus. Highly significant differences occurred among different plant densities. Closer plant density at 75*15 cm decreased the top weight per plant, root size, yield per plants and percentage of marketable yield but increased the total root yield and number of marketable roots per plant. On the other hand, wider plant density at 75*60 cm increased the top weight, root weight per plant, root size and percentage of marketable yield but decreased the total root yield per ha. At 75*15 and 75*30 cm plant density gave maximum root yield of 21.25 t/ha and 20.15 t/ha, respectively.
