The pharmaceutical industry, which allowed the achievements of contemporary medicine, has been extremely developed during the last decades. Thousand drugs, mostly of synthetic origine allowed successful treatment of numerous diseases, among which some were considered fatal until recently. At the same time the consumption of drugs increased. The usage of many medicines confirmed their effectiveness but at the same time the reports about unwanted side and harmful effect became frequent. Unwanted effects of the drugs gave rise to the development of the new field of research in clinical pathology: iatrogenic pathology. The knowledge of iatrogenic effects did not lead to withrowal of possibly harmful medicines from the market so that the consequences of their use are sometimes more serious than the diseases which have been treated. Uncontrolled use of drugs in production animals does not only compromize their health but through the food chains treats the human health.
