Influence of seed keeping time on the quality of cold pressed oil of oleic and linoleic sunflower type

The influence of seed keeping time on the quality of cold pressed oils of domestic oleic and linoleic sunflower hybrids was investigated. It was found that during a 12 months period the quality change of oleic sunflower seed is less intensive than of linoleic type. The quality, nutritive value and stability were investigated in cold pressed oil obtained from seed kept for 3 e.g. 12 months. According to the obtained results, the oleic type oil is of higher quality and significant stability. The stability of oleic type oil, determined by Rancimat test at 100 deg C, was by 3 to 4 times higher compared with the linoleic type. The content of total tocopherols was about 700 mg/kg in both oil type. The 12 months storage period resulted in minimal tocopherols loss. It is possible to keep the cleaned and dried oleic type sunflower seed - NS-Olivko - for more than 12 months, while the adequate quality necessary for cold pressed oil remains.
