In the first chapter of this book basic principles of artificial neural networks (ANN) are described, their architectures and training algorithms with special overview on Generalized Regression Neural Networks. The next chapter deals with application of ANN in the modeling and optimization of controlled release matrix tablets with acetylsalicylic acid as active substance. Stability of acetylsalicylic acid is described, as well as different types of acetylsalicylic acid controlled release formulations. Also, in this chapter the author describes characteristics of Eudragit RS PO as controlled release acrylic polymer, used in this experimental work as controlled release matrix substance. In the experimental part Generalized Regression Neural Network is applied in the modeling and optimization of extended release acetylsalicylic acid matrix tablets. Also, for the first time in the pharmaceutical literature, this type of network is applied for stability prediction of prepared acetylsalicylic acid matrix tablets.
